Matchbox started life in 1947 as Lesney Products (LES Part taken from Leslie Smith & the NEY part from Rodney Smith) along with Jack Odell, In 1953 it took on the name Matchbox due to the range of models that were made to fit into matchbox sized boxes, Lesney Products went bankrupt in 1982 and its assets were taken over by Universal Toys and in 1986 changed its name to Matchbox international Ltd, During 1992 the Matchbox brand was sold to Tyco Toys and then in 1997 sold to Mattel. During the years they made several ranges of models but only the Yesteryear range had Steam based models. Code 1 Models are manufactured by the Matchbox organization.Code 2 Models are re painted and or re liveried versions of Code 1 Models but done with Matchboxes Permission. Code 3 Models are re painted and or re liveried by persons outside the Matchbox organization without permission. Each Yesteryear model was given a number and shown below is a list of the
